WHY I TEACH

As a student, piano and music came naturally to me.  I was a student who didn't have to think about what finger to use, when to pedal, how to phrase, what a composer was trying to say.  I could read music as one would read a book. Music was my way of expressing myself when words would fail.

Fast forward to my teaching career and suddenly I had to figure out how to teach others this language - its meaning, the words, its pronunciation. History, theory, kinaestheology all come together to inform our practice and performance. This is how I teach.

Whether a student is coming to me as a beginner, as an intermediate or advanced student, whether the student is seeking input on exam repertoire or preparing for a competition, I draw on my extensive performance record as soloist, chamber musician and concerto soloist and my university training first as student then as professor to bring out the best in each and every student.
